Do you think running is boring? Has your running routine become too much of a routine? Don’t worry you’re not doomed to a lifetime of boring cardio. Whether you’re stuck in a rut or just don’t find running enjoyable, here are eight ways to put some fun into your running routine.


1. Enter a Fun Run
“Fun Runs” have taken the running world by storm. You’ll be so busy treading through mud, dodging bright color paint powder, maneuvering through intense obstacles with your friends, you won’t even notice how long or how far you have been running.

2. Take the Scenic Route
If you happen to be fortunate enough to live near a body of water, trying running alongside an ocean, lake or river. Hills that overlook metropolitan cities can be a rewarding, scenic run once you reach the peak. For an even better running experience, head out for your run during a sunset.

3. Run with a Buddy
If you enjoy getting together with your friends during the week to catch up, why not do so while going on an easy jog through your neighborhood? Adding a slow-paced jog into your workout regimen can be beneficial. Try jogging with a friend for 30-minutes while catching up on each other’s lives.

4. Head to the Hills
Running on a treadmill or the same route everyday can get boring. Switch up your route, find a close by trail and go on a running adventure.

5. Create the Perfect Playlist
According to American Scientific, “music distracts people from pain and fatigue, elevates mood, increases endurance, reduces perceived effort and may even promote metabolic efficiency. When listening to music, people run farther, bike longer and swim faster than usual.” Create a new fun, motivating playlist before your next run.

6. Run with a Dog
If you have a four-legged friend waiting for you at home, grab a leash and go on a run together. Running with your dog is beneficial for both parties. If you don’t have a furry friend of your own, check to see if your local animal shelter has a running program.

7. Challenge Your Friends
If you are a competitive person, try challenging your friends or co-workers to a weekly race. For extra motivation, put a fun incentive such as loser buys dinner.

8. Watch TV on the Treadmill
Some many of us watch hours of TV every week at home. So, why not run while doing it? Nearly every gym has televisions in front of the treadmills. Instead of sitting on your couch, grab your headphones and watch a sporting event or your favorite series while running on the treadmill.
